Lucknow, Mar 22 (UNI) Retired Allahabad High Court Judge Mohd Asgar Khan was today appointed Chief Information Commissioner under the Right To Information (RTI) Act in Uttar Pradesh.

State Governor T V Rajeswar administered him the oath at a simple ceremony at Raj Bhawan this evening.

Chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, assembly speaker Mata Prasad Pandey alongwith senior officials of the state were present.

Justice Khan recently retired as Allahabad High Court judge.

However, on the day he took oath, Justice Khan refused to talk to mediapersons.

RTI Act came into force in October last year in the country and was constituted in UP later on.

Departments of tourism, transport and power in UP have started primary work on RTI by giving options in their official website, but nothing exists in black and white.
