Leptospirosis scare in Raichur
Raichur (Karnataka), Mar 22: A team of doctors from the National Institute of Virology arrived here yesterday to assess the situation in the district, where over 5,242 people from 34 villages were suffering from either leptospirosis, malaria or dengue fever for the last six weeks.
District Surveillance Officer Nagaraj said today the team rushed to Maski town, one of the affected areas, to take stock of the situation.
District Health and Family Planning Office sources said the medical department had collected blood samples from 79 suspected leptospirosis patients and sent it to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases Laboratory in Bangalore. The district administration had sanctioned Rs five lakh for purchasing medicines.
Doctors were available in all the primary health centres in the district, the sources added.
