KMC commissioner presents surplus civic budget
Kolhapur, Mar 22 (UNI) Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) commissioner Kunal Kumar today presented a surplus budget for the year 2006-2007 which does not impose any fresh taxes.
The budget envisages a revenue of Rs 185.21 crore against an expenditure of Rs 185.08 crore.
The budget has accorded priority to environmental considerations, provision of drinking water, pollution control and drainage works, the commissioner told reporters after presenting the budget proposals to the Standing Committee. A Rs 3.90-crore provision has been made for beautifying the city's Rankala Lake, while an equal provision has been made to make the Panchaganga River pollution-free.
Provisons have been made for installation of a Geographic Information System, to streamline the water supply distribution system, and improvement of the drainage system in the city.
An Integrated Voice Response System service has been proposed to register online complaints from citizens. The budget also has provisions to encourage use of non-conventional energy sources like solar water heaters in college hostels and other places.
