Gender Equity policy to be announced by Gujarat:Minister

Gandhinagar, Mar 22 (UNI) Gujarat Women and Family Welfare Minister Anandiben Patel today said the state will soon announce a Gender Equity Policy which will go a long way in empowering women.

An action plan to help women avail the benefits of the all schemes will be soon drawn up, Ms Patel told the Assembly.

A new Vividh Lakshy Mahila Kalyan Yojana is being readied under which 25 welfare centres will be set up at the district and another 145 at taluka levels which will work for women, she said. For the district Vividh Lakshy Mahila Centre, a sum of Rs 2.25 lakh each will be given.

NGOs working in partnership will be given 25 per cent of the funds allocated for the purpose.

Another Rs 78.16 crores will be spent on food and nutrients for the benefit of 27 lakh children in the age of 0-6 years, their mothers, pregnant women, suffering from iron deficiency, a government statement said.

Helplines dedicated solely to women will be provided for in every district to take up issues concerning them and counsel them, she said.

Apart from this, legal couselling facilities will be provided, she said.
