Written by: Staff

New Delhi, Mar 22 (UNI) Delhi Pradesh BJP today suspended its MLA Harsharan Singh Balli for indulging in ''anti-party activities'' for a long time.

Mr Balli was not working towards the welfare of the party, Delhi BJP Chief Harshvardhan said and added that attending expelled BJP leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti's Janadesh rally here yesterday just triggered a decision ''waiting to happen''.

The former Delhi Industries Minister had also disobeyed orders of the party's legislative unit many times, Dr Harshvardhan said.

He had also gone against the party's will by going on an indefinate hunger strike recently on the demolition issue, he added.

He had spoken against the party leadership then but later gave a written apology, Dr Harshvardhan said.

Mr Balli had spoilt the party's image in the media and in the people's minds, he added.

Yesterday, the BJP had suspended senior Dalit leader and former Union Minister Sangha Priya Gautam from the party with immediate effect for attending Ms Bharti's rally.

The step had come close on the heels of suspension of Delhi BJP stalwart Madan Lal Khurana from the party for the second time for anti-party activities.

Party Spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the decision was taken by BJP President Rajnath Singh against Mr Gautam, who was also a former BJP Vice President at the national level.

Mr Gautam was one of those invited to attend the rally held at the Ramlila Grounds today.

Taking note of the participation of other prominent BJP leaders at the rally, the BJP Chief said the respective state units would be taking disciplinary action and asserted that the party would not tolerate indiscipline.

The leaders who had attended the rally included former Union Ministers Swamy Chinmayananda and Tapan Sikdar, former Ministers Gauri Shankar Shejwar (MP), Ramashish Rai (UP) and former Karnataka BJP Chief Basavaraj Patil besides Delhi BJP MLA Harsharan Singh Balli.
