1st Batch infrastructure projects cleared under JNNURM

New Delhi, Mar 22 (UNI) The Union Urban Development Ministry has cleared the first batch of infrastructure projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

A eight-member central sanctioning and monitoring committee, in its first ever meeting in the capital yesterday gave its green signal to projects worth about Rs 400 crore, a official statement said today.

The projects sanctioned related to submission, infrastructure and governance in fields like expansion and upgradation of water supply, water leak detection, storm water drainage, water pipelines, water treatment plants, water channels and road over bridges.

The central committee had sanctioned five projects to Nagpur, four to Hyderabad, one project each to Ahmedabad and Bhopal. The central assistance to these sanctioned projects was about Rs 165 crore and the first installment would be about Rs 40 crore.

The Urban Development Ministry would send its sanction to these projects to Finance Ministry's Department of Expenditure in two to three days for the release of the first installment of funds.

The CMSC would again meet on the 27th of this month to consider other completed projects under the JNNURM.

The mission would release the central assistance in four installments depending upon the implementation of the sanctioned projects under the urban renewal mission and adhering to the reforms mandated.
