MIG crashes in Barmer, 2 pilots killed

Jaisalmer, Mar 21 (UNI) An Indian Air Force MIG fighter plane crashed this afternoon in Barmer district, killing both pilots.

The accident occurred in Kannot village in Baitu tehsil around 1630 hrs.

The plane had taken off from Barmer's Uttarlai airport. Fire engulfed the plane minutes after takeoff. It crashed immediately and its pieces were scattered over an area of two-three km.

''There were two pilots steering the plane. Body of one of the pilots has been found while the second pilot's body still lies amidst the fire that engulfed the plane,'' said Tarun Singha, the PRO of South-Western command.

The Air Force has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
