Advani denied field for rally
Guwahati, Mar 21 (UNI) The BJP today expressed its displeasure as the civil administration of Assam did not permit BJP leader L K Advani to hold a public rally here.
The rally was later shifted to a public hall but eventually got cancelled as a mark of respect to the death of AGP leader Bhrigu Kumar Phukan.
''This is a matter the Election commission should take into their own hand. There should be a level playing field for all the political parties, '' said Mr Advani, who eventually addressed a news conference in place of public rally.
Both Mr Advani and the BJP were livid over the denial. The main public places of the city had already been occupied and the BJP sought to hold the rally at Pandu but even that was denied at the last moment.
Later speaking to newspersons, Mr Advani alleged continuous infiltration, at the behest of the Congress government at the Centre and state had created internal security problems.
''This government is lacking in two points. They are security and probity and in both they are falling apart. It is matter of time before a Bangladeshi occupy high position through democratic means,'' he said.
Mr Advani also accused the government of bringing the IMDT act back to Assam through 'backdoor' after being scrapped by the Supreme Court. ''The Apex Court scrapped the law and found it discriminatory and yet the government brought it back,'' he said.
