Declare 3 coastal dists horticulture dists

Udupi (Karnataka), Mar 19: With a vast potential available in horticulture sector in Karnataka, the three coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Udupi should be declared as horticulture districts, Medical Education and Animal Husbandry Minister Dr V S Acharya opined today (Mar 19, 2006).

Inaugurating an awareness workshop on the activities of the National Horticulture Board here, he said both the Union and State Governments should provide necessary financial aid for the purpose.

Dr Acharya assured that he would make his best efforts to include Udupi and Dakshina Kannada in the National Horticulture Mission.

Stating that the benefits of researches conducted in the Bramhavar Agricultural Research Centre, near here, should reach the farmers, he stressed the need for farmers taking up intensive horticultural activities in the district following declining agricultural activities.
