UMMK extends support to AIADMK in ensuing assembly poll

Chennai, Mar 11 (UNI) The Ulaippalar Makkal Munnetra Katchi (UMMK) today decided to extend its support to the ruling AIADMK front in the May 8 elections to the Tamil Nadu State Assembly.

Addressing a press conference here, party's founder President C Rajendran said a decision to this effect was taken at the party's district office bearers meeting held at Salem on Thursday.

He said the party, which represents the 'Boyar Community', comprising 50 lakh people all over Tamil Nadu, had been demanding separate reservation in job and education sectors, based on their total population.

Mr Rajendran hoped that Chief Minister J Jayalaithaa, would consider their demand and include it in the party's election manifesto.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of Devendra Kula Velalars had also offered their support to the AIADMK front.

Soon after the State Administrative Council of the Confederation held here today, Confederation's Coordinator A M Natarjan said the AIADMK Government in the last five years, had initiated several welfare measures for the people of Tamil Nadu, especially to the farmers and Dalits.

He said there were no communal clashes and unrest in Tamil Nadu during the AIADMK tenure.

Mr Natarajan said their intention was to unite the Vellalars Community and urged the AIADMK to incorporate their demand in its election manifesto.
