Two-day Bombay Medical Congress begins

Mumbai, Mar 11 (UNI) The two-day ''Bombay Medical Congress'' got underway here today with Western Naval Command's Flag Officer-Commanding-in-Chief Vice-Admiral S S Byce emphasising the need for more interaction between civilian and military medical services to meet new challenges of war and diseases.

About 300 experts from the Armed Forces Medical Services and their civilian counterparts from Mumbai in various fields are participating in the Congress, being held at INHS Asvini premises in Colaba here.

The prestigious Western Naval Command Oration was delivered Director-General of Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) Surgeon Vice Admiral V K Singh. The Oration on ''Noise Pollution and Health'' brought out the health hazards of the modern fast developing lifestyle. There would be another Oration and eight guest lectures by experts on wide-ranging medical subjects of topical interests.

The Medical Congress promotes young medical graduates and medical students. It encourages them to present scientific papers and participate in symposia.
