Tamil Nadu has 4.63 crore voters

Chennai, Mar 11 (UNI) The size of the electorate in Tamil Nadu is 4.63 crore after the summary revision of the rolls with January 2006 as the cut off date, showing an increase of 13 lakh over the draft rolls.

Announcing this here, Chief electoral officer Naresh Gupta said out of nearly 19 lakh claims received for inclusion, 13.76 lakhs were accepted. There were 44,000 deletions. Thus, the number of voters in the final rolls has gone up by 2.96 per cent.

He said the coverage of voters with the Photo Identity Card has been steadily increasing with 1,300 designated photography centres operating now.

The coverage is expected to cross 75 per cent by the end of this month. There has been a problem in two out of 14 regions as the vendors did not have the required equipment and were short of manpower, he added.
