Steps taken to resolve NRIs' problems: Ravi
Kottayam, Mar 11 (UNI) Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi today said steps were being taken to resolve the problems of all the Indians in the Gulf region.
Addressing a news conference here, the Minister said he would discuss the problems of Indians with various associations and organisations when he visited the United Arab Emirates on March 16.
Mr Ravi also said a meeting of the Ambassadors in eight countries including Jordan and Yemen would be held at Doha on March 20 and 21.
On problems faced by women, he said Emigration clearance would not be given to housemaids below the age of 30 and in special cases, they will have to produce embassy-attested request.
Besides, pre-departure training would be given to them and they would have to report to the embassy concerned, he added.
Steps had also been taken to stop fraudulent marriages, Mr Ravi said and added a cell network from panchayat level to Ministry level would be set up in this regard.
He also said there were plans to amend the Emigration Act.
