Police officer, two militants among 5 killed in J and K

Srinagar, Mar 11 (UNI) A police officer and two militants were among five people killed while a woman was injured in Jammu and Kashmir overnight, official sources said here today.

Militants shot at and critically wounded an Assistant Sub-Inspector of police (Crime branch) Ali Mohammad Malik at Dargam Morh near Pattan in north Kashmir district of Baramulla this afternoon at about 1545 hrs. He died on the spot, the sources said.

They said Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Special Operation Group (SOG) of state police and the Army launched a search operation at village Machoo Gofan under police station Yaripora in the south Kashmir district of Pulwama late last night.

When troops were sealing the village, militants hiding opened fire and also hurled hand grenades on the security forces.

Militants, who were repeatedly asked to surrender, continued firing from automatic weapons. The fire was returned and in the night-long fierce clash, two militants were killed.

Two AK rifles, seven magazines, 67 rounds of ammunition, eight hand grenades and one damaged mobile phone were recovered from the slain militants.

Sources said militants abducted Mohammad Yasin Mir and Mohammad Shafi from their houses at Jaibal Ashmuqam in South Kashmir district of Anantnag late last night. Both were shot at and wounded critically at Dahwach Pahalgam, the sources said adding Mir died on way to hospital while has been hospitalised.

Militants shot dead one Raja Mohammad Iqbal at Pouni while a woman, Tahimna Begum, was shot at and wounded at Ghandogh last night.

She has been hospitalised.
