New Zealand set West Indies 291 for victory
SYDNEY, Mar 11 (Reuters) West Indies were 48 without loss at stumps on the third day of the opening test with New Zealand at Auckland today, leaving them a further 243 runs for victory.
Chris Gayle was unbeaten on 28 with fellow opener Daren Ganga not out on 20, giving the tourists a great start in the pursuit of the 291 they need to win.
New Zealand were bowled out for 272 midway through the final session after starting the day on 98-4 and an overall lead of 116 at Eden Park.
Wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum top-scored with 74 off 126 balls while Stephen Fleming and Daniel Vettori both made 33. Gayle polished off the tail to capture four wickets.
