Maran urges Finnish PM to start new industries in India

Chennai, Mar 11 (UNI) Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology Dayanidhi Maran today urged the Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen to start new industries in India.

Mr Maran, who called on Mr Vanhanen, who was here to participate in the inauguration ceremony of Nokia manufacturing facility at Sriperumbudur, told him that India had good infrastructural facilities and Finland should come forward to make investments.

Pointing out that India was making tremendous strides in the Automobile and Information Technology sectors, Mr Maran requested Mr Vanhanen to start new industries, an official release here said.

Thanks to the initiative taken by Mr Maran, mobile major Nokia has established its manufacturing facility at Sriperumbudur, about 40 kms from here, but Mr Maran could not take part in the function, in view of the model code of conduct for the May eight assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.

As the model code of conduct was in force, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh could also not take part in the inaugural ceremony.

The Election Commission which gave its nod for the function, believed to have advised Mr Maran not to participate in the function when the code was in force.
