Investment in Science and Technology increasing
Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, Mar 11 (UNI) The investment in Science Technology (S&T) was on the increase in the country, according to V S Ramamurthy, Secretary to the Government of India, Department of S&T.
Talking to newspersons here today, he said about 20 to 25 per cent increase was registered in the 2006-07 budget by the Centre for S&T, scientific industrial research, ocean development, atomic energy and space.
Dr Ramamurthy said investments in scientific research was increasing rapidly, especially in drug development and bio-techonology.
He said the investments in S&T by India were on the increase, which, however, cannot be compared with investments made by the United States and other developed nations.
''We have to prioritise our limited resources and focus our investments on specific areas, where we have natural advantage " he said.
Dr Ramamurthy said drug discovery was an expensive process.
Vaccine development is less expensive and the US accorded priority to its development, compared to drugs.
