Insurance broker Aon to cut 400 additional jobs

NEW YORK, Mar 11 (Reuters) Aon Corp., the world's No. 2 insurance broker, said it expects to cut 1,800 jobs, 400 more than it previously forecast, as part of a plan to save 0 million a year by 2008.

The company disclosed the increase in its annual report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday.

Chicago-based Aon said it expects to incur 2 million of pretax charges from severance, office closings, asset writedowns and other restructuring costs.

Aon said in November the restructuring would result in 1,400 job losses, including 750 in the United Kingdom.

The 1,800 jobs represent 3.9 per cent of the company's year-end workforce of 46,600.

Shares of Aon rose 75 cents to .14 in Friday trading on the New York Stock Exchange. They have risen 66 per cent in the last year, compared with a less than 1 per cent decline for larger rival Marsh&McLennan Cos..
