Heavy rains lash Delhi, mercury drops to 15 deg C
New Delhi, Mar 11 (UNI) After a slight rainfall yesterday, heavy rains lashed the capital early this morning.
The heavy rainfall, which began at 0030 hrs and continued till early this morning, resulted in sharp drop in the minimum temperature in the capital to 15 degrees Celsius, from 19 degrees Celsius recorded yesterday.
About 10.2 mm of rainfall was recorded till 0830 hrs, the met office said. Yesterday also, the capital had experienced slight rainfall.
For the first time in the last few days, the sun was visible this morning. However, the coolness in the weather that the capital has witnessed for the past two days, continued today.
There has been a sudden turnaround in the weather in Delhi since Wednesday when the capital witnessed build up of thick clouds towards the evening followed by a sudden burst of rain and hailstorms. The cloud cover has persisted ever since, with the skies clearing up only this morning.
The weatherman attribute the sudden coolness in weather to the influence of an upper air cyclonic storm originating from areas in Rajasthan.
The rains and cool breeze flowing through the capital led to the maximum temperature dropping to 22.5 degrees Celsius yesterday, from 29 degree Celsius on Thursday.
The cool weather is in sharp contrast to the scorching conditions witnessed in Delhi since the beginning of February.
