CITU protests new series of Cunsumer Price Index

New Delhi, Mar 11 (UNI) The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) today said the step of the Ministry of Labour to release a new series of Consumer Price Index (CPI) for industrial workers without consulting the labour unions was arbitrary.

Urging the government to withdraw the new series of CPI released by the Labour Bureau Shimla, CITU secretary W R Vara Rajan said at the three meetings convened in this connection, all central trade unions had voiced their concern over the faulty procedure adopted in the compilation of the new series.

Despite that it was not corrected which shoiwed the arbitrary manner in which the government was functioning, he stressed.

The government had also turned a deaf ear to the demand of the trade unions for appointment of an Index Review Committee and implementation of the Rath Committee report of CPI, said Mr Varada Rajan.

The new system was done to artificially deflate the price index which would lead to severe cut in the Dearnes Allowance of crores of workers,'' he added.
