Bangalore to have a multi-modal transport system

New Delhi, Mar 11 (UNI) Following a go-ahead given by the Group of Ministers for the Bangalore Metro, the Karnataka Government is working on a comprehensive multi-modal transport system to supplement the Metro.

Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who was in the national capital to attend the conference of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices, told newspersons that a Committee of experts will submit their report to provide hassle free transport system to the people.

According to the plan, commuters can travel on a single ticket on all the sytems Metro and supplementary modes of transport that includes mono-rail and the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses.

The Committee is expected to submit its report by next month.

Work will commence in September and the system is expected to be in place atleast 18 months prior to the Bangalore Metro becomes functional.

Several companies including a few from far-eastern countries had evinced interest in building the project on Build Own and Transport (BOT) basis that will link suburban Kengeri Yashwantpur, Nelamangala, Kengeri, Yelahanka and K R Puram.

''We want to offer the best transport systems for Bangaloreans'' Mr Kumaraswamy said.

With the government planning a single ticketing system for Metro, Mono and BMTC, the revenue generated will reach the common pool and get apportioned thereafter on a formula.
