No change in Government's stand on Iran: Congress
New Delhi, Mar 10: Rejecting the CPI(M)'s allegation that India had changed its stand on the Iran nuclear issue, the Congress today (Mar 10, 2006) expressed the hope that the 'crisis will be defused' through diplomacy before the UN Security Council takes up the matter for possible sanctions against Tehran.
''I don't agree. The government's consistent stand was explained to everyone,'' Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters who sought his reaction to the Left's contention.
''Our stand remains the same. India is for resolving the issue through negotiations,'' he said and added that the UPA government could not be blamed if diplomacy failed to produce the desired result.
