Lucknow, Mar 5: Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Harit Pradesh president, Mairajuddin Ahmed, today took the oath as Cabinet Minister in Uttar Pradesh.

Dr Ahmed, will hold the office of State Irrigation Minister, Munna Singh Chauhan, who resigned yesterday, after he was made RLD general secretary and organisation in-charge of UP.

Governor T V Rajeswar administered the oath of office and secrecy to Dr Ahmed, who was till date chairman UP Export Corporation with a minister of state level.

Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and other ministerial colleagues were also present at the ceremony in Raj Bhavan.

However, none of the five state RLD ministers or any party MLAs along with party president Ajit Singh were present in the function.

Later, talking to mediapersons, Dr Ahmed, said he would try to give his best to serve the people and the state.

Contradicting that there was any spats in the party, which led to the reshuffle, Mr Chauhan said, he was given the important post in the organisation in view of the coming assembly elections.

Reiterating that he will continue to fight for the demand of Harit Pradesh, the new minister said, aspiration of the people of western UP could be fulfilled only through creation of a new separate state.

Commenting on the recent controversy after announcement of Rs 51 crore on the head of Danish cartoonist by minister of state Haji Yakoob, Mr Ahmed said ''I don't agree to this point and only demand that India should snap all ties with Denmark to protest against the eposide''.

Dr Ahmed, who is expected to get the irrigation portfolio, is presently not a member of the state legislature and is likely to contest the bi-ennial elections of the state council to be held on March 28 next.
