Unions protest visit of US President
Bathinda, Mar 2:) Various leftist workers and students' unions today burnt US President George Bush in effigy here and in Mansa and Barnala, in protest against ''his autocratic style of functioning''.
Shouting slogams of 'Bush go back,' activists of the Punjab Students' union and Democratic Youth Federation of India held a noisy protest outside the SD girls' college at Barnala. They also burnt the US President in effigy.
Members of the Bharitya Kisan Union (BKU), Kisan Sabha and Khet Mazdoor Union, all allies of the Left demonstrated in front of district courts complex here and at Mansa.
Addressing the protest rallies leaders of these Unions blamed the US for forcing WTO policies on poor and developing nations. They also criticised the US presence in Afghanistan and Iraq.
