Tripura protests against allotment of power to Assam

Agartala, Mar 2 (UNI) Tripura Power Minister Manik Dey has sought the intervention of Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shindhe for restoration of power supply to Tripura from the North-Eastern grid.

In a letter to Mr Shindhe, Mr Dey alleged the Centre had been reducing the power quota of Tripura for the benefit of Assam with political motivation.

Mr Dey said originally the state used to get 20 per cent power from the North-Eastern grid. But it was reduced to 15 per cent in November last year and to 2 per cent yesterday without any reason.

''The centre has been reducing the share of Tripura only to reap benefit in the coming Assembly elections in Assam,'' he alleged.
