MESMA invoked for striking doctors

Mumbai, Mar 1 (UNI) The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has today invoked the Medical Essential Services Maintenance Act (MESMA) against over 2,500 resident doctors who are on a strike since the past three days.

The doctors went on strike following a call by MARD (Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors) members of KEM hospital and Bhabha hospital, where two alleged assaults took place on the doctors by the relatives of patients on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, talking to UNI, Maharashtra Medical Education Minister Dilip Valse-Patil said that the government had given an ultimatum that all the striking doctors should report on duty by tomorrow noon.
