Eat properly cooked chicken, eggs: Govt to people

Shillong, Mar 2 (UNI) Meghalaya government, in an effort to dispell fears about avian flu in the state, today asserted that there was no report of outbreak of the disease in any part of NE.

The government exhorted people to eat chicken and eggs but only after 'cooking it properly'.

In the appeal replete with a note of precaution, state Animal Husbandry and Veterinary (AH and V) department requested the public to contact nearest veterinary doctors if they noticed any disease symptoms in birds, which usually happens during windy season.

It stated that there was no confirmed case of bird flu in the state and in any other part of this region Howerver, the department had been continuously monitoring the situation on a day-to-day basis.

All district AH and V officers had been instructed to keep a strict vigil in their respective check posts.

Rapid response team was on alert to deal with any emergency situation.
