Charkhas for Bush flown in from Kerala
New Delhi, Mar 2: The two rosewood charkhas gifted to US President George W Bush and wife Laura were flown in from Kerala.
'Kairali', the Kerala emporium on the Baba Kharak Singh Marg here, delivered the mini charkhas to the Rajghat Samadhi Committee on Tuesday, just in time for the visit of the US President.
Artisans at the Handicraft Development Corporation of Kerala in Thiruvananthapuram were given only a week to make the charkhas.
''We received the order from the Rajghat Samadhi a week ago and we informed our headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram,'' said an official of the 'Kairali' emporium.
The charkhas, one measuring 12 inches and the other 10 inches, arrived in Delhi on Tuesday and they were delivered to the Rajghat Samadhi Committee the same day.
The bigger charkha costs Rs 1,000 and the smaller one Rs 900, the official said.
The emporium had arranged for the charkha which was gifted to the then US President Bill Clinton at the Rajghat when he came in 2000.
