Toll in Baghdad car bomb rises to 20

BAGHDAD, March 1 (Reuters) Twenty people were killed and 40 wounded, most of them civilians, when a car bomb went off near a police checkpoint in mainly Shi'ite east Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said.

The blast in the New Baghdad district follows a week of sectarian violence sparked by the bombing of a Shi'ite shrine.
