Tarn Taran SDM, MC Executive Officer summoned

Chandigarh, Mar 1 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed the sub-divisional magistrate and the executive officer, of Tarn Taran municipal council in Amritsar district to appear personally on March 20 in connection with a petition about the encroachments on public land on the state highway that passes through the town.

The order was passed by the court's division bench of Chief Justice D K Jain and Justice Surya Kant when the PIL came up for further hearing in the matter.

In their replies filed in the court, it was contended by these officers that the road under reference was no longer a state highway since a by-pass had been constructed. The bench wanted specific response to the removal of encroachments and directed the authorities to file a status report in this regard before the next hearing.
