Mode code of conduct comes into immediate effect in TN: CEO
Chennai, Mar 1 (UNI) With the announcement of schedule for Tamil Nadu Assembly elections today, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect, State Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta said.
In a statement here, he said Ministries and other authorities should not announce any financial grants in any form or promises hereafter and lay foundation stones of projects or schemes of any kind.
They should not make any promise of construction of roads and provision of drinking water facilities and make any ad hoc appointments in government and public undertakings which might have the effect of influencing the voters in favour of the party in power, he added.
Mr Gupta said the Ministers should not combine their official visit with electioneering work and should not make use of official machinery or personnel during the campaigning.
While the works which had already been started on ground might be continued, no fresh work should be started till the completion of the elections. No works should be started even if the work order had been issued earlier. Tenders were not to be finalised during the period of elections, he said.
