EC announces poll schedule for four states and one UT

New Delhi, Mar 1 (UNI) The assembly elections in Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry will be held between April 3 and May 8, Chief Election Commissioner B B Tandon announced here today.

While Assam and Pondicherry will witness polling in two phases, West Bengal will have a five-phased poll. Kerala will have polling in three phases while Tamil Nadu will witness a one-day poll.

The counting of votes in all the states would be taken up on May 11 and the entire election process will be completed by May 20, Mr Tandon told mediapersons.

He said the Model Code of Conduct in these states will come into force with immediate effect.
