CPM leader urges Pondy admn to improve prison condition
Pondicherry, Mar 1 (UNI) Former secretary of the CPI(M) T Murugan today urged the Pondicherry administration to take immediate steps to improve the condition of the Central Prison here.
In a statement here, he pointed out that R Suresh, undergoing life imprisonment allegedly attempted to commit suicide twice following torture by the authorities.
Mr Murugan said he had received a letter from Suresh detailing the torture, he was facing in the jail.
Demanding that the control of the jail should be brought under an IAS officer from the present set up of an IPS officer, Mr Murugan urged the administration to inquire why prisoners whose term expired were being kept in the prison for more days.
