BJP demands CBI probe into SNC Lavalin deal

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 1 (UNI) Demanding a CBI probe into the controversial SNC-Lavalin deal, the BJP in Kerala today alleged that both the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) and the Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) were trying to protect those involved in it.

Talking to mediapersons here, party State President P S Sreedharan Pillai said the ongoing vigilance inquiry could not prove the case and that a CBI probe alone could bring out the truth.

Mr Pillai alleged a conspiracy behind the non-inclusion of political leaders in the FIR filed by the vigilance SP on the deal yesterday, though both the Congress and the CPI(M) had levelled allegations against each other on the issue.

The Government betrayed the people by excluding political leaders from the FIR and putting the blame on officials, he said and added that the UDF was hand in glove with the LDF on the issue.

The relevance of the UDF and LDF was lost and it was better for them to form a unit of the UPA in the State, he added.
