Written by: Staff

Pondicherry, Feb 28 (UNI) Villagers of Dharmapuri in Ozhukarai constituency and volunteers of self-help groups in the area today (Feb 28, 2006) resorted to a road roko on the Vazhudavoor Road to protest against alleged partisan attitude of Agriculture Minister A Namasivayam.

The villagers alleged the Minister was showing discrimination in granting funds for the construction of pucca houses under a Governement scheme and loans for the self-help groups.

As efforts to pacify them failed, police arrested 40 persons and restored normal traffic.

Meanwhile, members of the PWD All Employees Joint Struggle Committee today observed a dharna in front of the Chief Secretariat to press their demands.

They were demanding among other things making Mazdoors as helpers and revising their basic salary.
