University employees demand uniform pay scales

Gulbarga, Feb 28: The All India University Employees Confederation has demanded that the University Grants Commission (UGC) implement uniform pay scales and service conditions for all varsity staff.

In a release here today, Confederation Secretary General M B Sajjan also wanted the UGC to enhance the grants to universities to to take up construction and maintenance of quarters for non-teaching employees.

He informed that a delegation of the Confederation, under his leadership, had met UGC Chairman Sukhdeo Thorat in New Delhi on February 20 and submitted a memorandum listing out their demands.

Mr Sajjan said the Federation's National Executive had passed several resolutions, including resolving the indefinite strike by University employees in Kerala demanding pay revision and withdrawal of dismissal orders to six employees and regularisation of the services of daily wagers and contract workers of Dravidian University in Kuppam and all universities in Andhra Pradesh.
