Prisoner attempts suicide in Pondicherry
Pondicherry, Feb 28: A life convict was hospitalised after he attempted to commit suicide at the Central Prison here today (Feb 28, 2006).
According to police, R Suresh consumed poisonous liquid and fainted in the jail. He was rushed to the Government General Hospital where he was said to be out of danger.
The reason for the attempt was not known immediately.
Suresh had attempted to commit suicide earlier by banging his head against a wall. Jail staff said the incident happened when he was summoned for questioning after he was caught red-handed with some cardamoms meant for cooking in the prison.
