Mulayam Yadav government twins confidence vote

Lucknow, Feb 28: The Mulayam Singh Yadav-led Uttar Pradesh government today (Feb 28, 2006) comfortably won a confidence vote in the Vidhan Sabha with a walkout by BJP and BSP members and Congress abstaining.

Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav moved the confidence motion in the house minutes after a three-judge Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court delivered a 2-1 judgement on 40 rebel BSP MLAs case, remanding back the issue to the Speaker.

The government won the confidence vote 207-0 in the absence of any opposition.

BSP and BJP staged a walkout saying there was no need of seeking confidence vote.
