Hundreds of fish found dead in Jamnagar district

Jamnagar, Feb 28: Close on the heels of the bird flu cases, which led to culling of lakhs of chickens, hundreds of fish have been killed in two rivulets in Jamnagar district in the past three days.

"A tractor load of dead fish were scooped out today from the rivulets flowing by Juna Nagana and Nava Nagana villages near here," said Jamnagar Muncipal Corporation's Deputy Commissioner Dheeraj Parekh.

Though he maintained that the cause of death of the fish was yet to be ascertained, the Sarpanchs of the villages alleged that polluted sewer water released by the JMC into the Rangmati and Nagmati rivulets, was responsible for the deaths.

However, Mr Parekh denied the charge and said JMC was not responsible for the deaths.
