Markets up by 65 pts before FM's Budget speech

Mumbai, Feb 28: The stock markets were in a buoyant mood with a gain of 65 points on the benchmark index of BSE at 10,347 at 1052 hrs today (Feb 28, 2006), just before Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram stood up in the Central Hall of Parliament to present the Union Budget for the fiscal 2006-07.

The 30-share Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) opened this morning above 10,300 mark at 10,308.71 with a gain of 26 points, as compared to last close of 10,282.

The key index shot up to 10,354 points with a gian of 72 points as the market expectations from the budget rose higher during the first hour of morning trade.

The 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index opened flat at 3,067. The index surged to a high of 3,083 and was trading at 3,078 with a gain of 11 points at 1138 hrs.

Top Sensex gainers were Larsen&Toubro, Tata Power, ICICI Bank, Grasim Industries, ACC, Hindustan Lever, Infosys Technologies, Reliance Energy, Reliance Industries and Maruti Udyog.

Top losers included Ranbaxy, Hindalco, ITC, Tata Steel, Bharti Tele, Gujarat Ambuja, Cipla, Satyam Computers and Dr Reddy's Lab.
