Hungary's Ferenc Bene dies aged 61
BUDAPEST, Feb 27 (Reuters) Former Hungarian Olympic soccer gold medallist Ferenc Bene has died aged 61, national news agency MTI reported today.
The prolific striker, capped 76 times, was a member of the winning team at the 1964 Olympic Games.
During the tournament he scored 12 goals. Playing for Ujpest in the Hungarian first division, he won eight league titles and was the league's top scorer five times.
The forward played 418 top-flight matches for Ujpest, scoring 303 goals. After finishing his playing career, he coached Ujpest and he was an assistant coach with the Hungarian under-21 Olympic team.
