Pakistan navy inducts fast attack missile craft

Karachi, Feb 24 (UNI) Pakistan Navy has inducted two indigenously built fast attack missile craft 'Quwwat' (Prowess) and 'Jurrat' (Valor).

The commissioning ceremony was held at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works.

Speaking on the occasion Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir said that commissioning of these Missile boats heralded a new era for Pakistan Navy in missile craft construction.

He said that this significant achievement had laid the foundation of a viable shipbuilding industry which Pakistan Navy would continue to further capitalise upon.

Admiral Tahir said that the country's Frigate Project has already been chalked out and will commence soon with the Chinese collaboration ''this will go a long way towards fulfilling our obligations in the region,'' he said.

Pakistan is to buy four F-22P frigates from China, which will construct two ships while remaining two will be built by Pakistan, he said.

Admiral Tahir observed that the government had paid focused attention to the maritime sector and development of Gwadar port in southwestern Balochistan and coastal highway were significant steps in that direction.
