NINL-SAIL merger at advanced stage: Paswan

New Delhi, Feb 25: The merger of Neelanchal Ispat Nigam Ltd (NINL) with SAIL is at an advanced stage, Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said today (Feb 25, 2006).

Addressing a press conference here, he said there were some plants which want to merge with SAIL and some did not.

"The talks on the merger of NINL with SAIL is at an advanced stage", he said.

The Minister said the Das Committee on the merger of steel plants had submitted its report.

"The Ministry is looking into it". Mr Paswan said.

He, however, clarified that no merger will take place without the consultations of the states concerned.

The Andhra Pradesh government is against the merger of SAIL with Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL). It wants to merge with NINL which wants to go with SAIL.

"There is a one way love affair", he said.
