Zoramthanga for proactive NEC
Aizawl, Feb 22 (UNI) Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has reiterated that North Eastern Council (NEC) needs to be more proactive for speedy development of North-East region.
During a NEC meet recently, Zoramthanga said the primary need of NE region was safe drinking water and sanitation for the burgeoning population.
To meet the demands of the tourist industry, Guwahati airport should be upgraded to international standards and better road links and air connectivity should be provided, he added.
He maintained that having ten per cent of funds of all ministries collected in a non-lapseable pool for development of the NE was not the solution, but proper guidance as to how the funds could be best accessed and utilised should also be provided.
During the meeting with the NEC officials, Mr Zoramthanga also requested that sufficient fund allocation be made for the IT and education sector, development of rural farmers and smooth implementation of the various NEC projects.
