Youth killed in Srinagar

Srinagar, Feb 23 (UNI) Demonstrators at the historic Lal Chowk area pelted stones at security forces accusing them of shooting and injuring a youth at Court Road today.

A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) spokesman however denied any involvement and said a group of three youths shot at and critically wounded another youth near Gurdwara Gali Court Road.

He said CRPF personnel, posted in the nearby bunker, later chased the youths who entered a house but before the house was cordoned off, people in the area started pelting stones on the CRPF personnel resulting in the closure of all shops and suspension of the traffic.

However, the demonstrators alleged that security forces, in a vehicle parked at Court Road, had shot at and wounded one person who was coming out from the court.

The injured died before he could be shifted to hospital.

Later, police was called to conduct the search of the house, he said.
