Will Smith launches Sony's English movie channel

Mumbai, Feb 23 (UNI) Noted Hollywood actor and Grammy award winner Will Smith here today launched Sony Entertainment television's (SET) English movie channel - PIX.

PIX will telecast contemporary and classic Hollywood movies and other programmes on movie-making.

On the occasion, Smith said, ''I have had a long association with Sony Pictures and when the opportunity was presented to me to visit India, I saw it as a prospect to help strenghten Hollywood ties with your country.'' ''India is becoming a superpower on the world stage and I wanted to experience its entertainment industry first-hand. Sony Entertainment television is popular here and I am thrilled that they invited me to make this visit and also launch their new English channel,'' he added.

SET India CEO Kunal Dasgupta said, ''The launch of this channel further strenghthens our already strong suite of SET India channels, which offers viewers entertainment.'' He also said it was an honour to launch their latest channel PIX with Will Smith.

The new channel will access the Sony pictures library, that includes movies from Columbia and MGM, he added.

SET is a part of the network of channels distributed by TheOne Alliance - a joint venture between SET India and Discovery Communications India.
