W B govt announces release of one installment of D A

Kolkata, Feb 24 (UNI) The West Bengal government today announced the release of one installment of Dearness Allowance equivalent to 2 per cent of basic pay for about ten lakh employees, teachers and others.

A government notification today said non-teaching employees of non governmental educational institutions, employees of public undertakings, local bodies, statutory authorities and corporations would also be eligible for the DA, effective from March one.

Finance minister Ashim Dasgupta said there will also be a corresponding increase in the relief on pension of the state government employees and those of other institutions and organisations. The benfit would reach about 4 lakh pensioners.

Payment of this additional Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief would cost the state exchequer of about Rs 14 crore during the current financial year and Rs 168 crore for 2006-7.
