'Visit Malaysia Year 2007' global campaign launched from India

Ahmedabad, Feb 24 (UNI) Even as Malaysia expects 20 million tourists from all over the world during its ''Visit Malaysia Year 2007 (VMY 2007)'' plan to mark its Golden Jubilee of Independence, Tourism Malaysia has announced a Rs 120-million VMY-2007 campaign from India.

Talking to media persons here yesterday, Tourism Malaysia Deputy Director General Mirza Mohammad Taiyab Beg said, ''We are expecting 350,000 tourists from India during the year, which is rated among the top ten countries in tourist arrival and top seven in generating revenue.'' ''India is the first counrty, where we are officially launching our global campaign. We not only want more tourists but are targeting more high-end tourists who will spend more and stay for a longer period in Malaysia.'' He said a Malaysian delegation, comprising representatives from 35 companies, including tour operators and hoteliers, will visit select places in India till March 6. It is scheduled to visit New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai, besides Ahmedabad.
