Veteran Congress leader passes away
Kolhapur, Feb 22 (UNI) Veteran Congress leader and former MLA Shamrao Bhivaji Patil passed away here today.
He was 77 and is survived by wife, three sons and two daughters.
Patil was admitted to a local hospital here yesterday following some health complaint. His end came at around 1000 hrs in the hospital, according to the family sources.
Patil was first elected as MLA from Kagal assembly constituency in this district after Independence. Later in 1978, he was appointed as president of the Kolhapur District Congress Committee and later he worked as president of the Western Maharashtra Unit Congress(I).
He was also enjoined as chairman and director with many financial institutions such as the Kolhapur District Central Co-operative Bank, Maharashtra State Marketing Federation, Maharashtra State Co-operative Bank and Maharashtra Agriculture Land Development Bank, besides various local co-operative units.
