Tiruchirapalli, Feb 23 (UNI) Election Commissioner N Gopalswami today said the ongoing preparation of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu was satisfactory.
Addressing a press conference at the District Collector's office, here Mr Gopalswami, who is on a two-day visit to the state to review the preparations for the assembly elections said there are some initial problems with the persons engaged on a contract for taking the photographs of voters for the photo identity cards, in bringing the equipment especially the generators to the centres.
He hoped that this would be rectified in two or three days. The contractors would photograph the voters in seven centres in an assembly constituency. The response for photographing in urban areas was good but low in rural areas.
Once generators were brought to the centres, the work would gain momentum in rural areas also, he added.
To a question, he said at present about 55 per cent of voters had the photo identity cards.
He said though the election commission had earlier announced that the final electoral rolls would be released on February 27, it may be delayed by a day or two if the work was not completed.
